To forge a path toward the future we want, we need to radically accept where we are starting from, as well as think about the luggage we are carrying. Letting go is not something we often talk about because it can be difficult, painful, and scary. It can be a way for us to assert control over our lives through radical acceptance and forgiveness. Use this activity to explore aspects of your life that you want to let go of.
For more on letting go, watch our Building Our Bundle Episode on the topic.
Using the reflection tree worksheet provided below, fill out the various sections of the tree, such as roots, trunk, new leaves, and old leaves. The roots of the tree represent aspects of your life that make you who you are. The trunk represents aspects of your life that you want to keep and that help you be who you are. The new leaves on the tree represent things that you want to bring into your life. The old leaves represent aspects of your life that you want to let go of. On you have identified the various aspects of your life, respond to the reflection questions provided. Practice letting go by focusing on the old leaves you identified. Spend some time reflecting on why you want to let it go. Put all your thoughts, emotions, and energies that arise from this aspect of your life and imagine them flowing out of you and into the paper in your hands. Physically let go of the paper by throwing it out. It is no longer yours to carry. Walk away and do not look back.
